Ellison-Backed Beach Wellness Retreat Opens in Los Cabos

Sensei at Zadún offers a wellness retreat that feels more like a relaxed vacation than a rigid health program. Guests arrive at the Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Los Cabos and find a schedule that can be shaped around personal goals rather than a preset agenda.
A different kind of wellness retreat
The concept was created by Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle, and Dr. David Agus, a physician-scientist. Their vision centers on three pillars—Move, Nourish and Rest—intended to give visitors tools they can keep after the stay.
Sensei currently operates three locations: Sensei Lānaʻi in Hawaii, Sensei Porcupine Creek in Rancho Mirage, and Sensei at Zadún in Mexico. The Los Cabos site is the brand’s first overseas property and the only one positioned directly on a beach.
Zadún sits on the Sea of Cortés near Puerto Los Cabos, bordered by dunes, desert scrub and open water. The ocean forms a natural backdrop, with beach-walking meditations and outdoor movement sessions that feel optional rather than required.
Strong currents make swimming hazardous, so guests typically use the shoreline for contemplation and the resort’s several pools for water-based exercise. This arrangement lets visitors enjoy the sea view without feeling pressured to stay in the water.

Stays can be booked under four formats. The lightest, called Discover, offers minimal structure. Optimal Wellbeing dives deeper into fitness, nutrition and health data. Rest and Reset emphasizes sleep, stress and recovery. The Guided Wellness Experience blends private sessions with group classes.
During the Guided experience, each guest meets a Sensei Guide for a “My Intention” conversation. Guests outline physical and mental states, desired outcomes and any activities they wish to avoid. Honesty guides the program, whether that means demanding workouts or a slower pace.
Guests can combine a one-on-one training session, a guided meditation and a massage, and also have access to optional group yoga, mobility and strength classes.
Accommodations include Ocean View Plunge Pool Rooms, each with a private terrace and plunge pool. The design blurs indoor and outdoor spaces, inviting guests to pause between sessions without leaving the room. A Personal Tosoani handles logistics like dining reservations, freeing the Sensei Guide to focus on wellness goals.
Dining options span casual to upscale. El Barrio offers Mexican-inspired fare, Humo provides fire-cooked specialties, and Equis serves lighter seafood dishes. Meals are presented as a break from the program rather than an extension of it, reinforcing the vacation feel.

The resort’s spa features treatment rooms, a lap pool, sauna, steam room and a hydrotherapy circuit. Guests have daily access, allowing them to schedule a slower afternoon in the sauna or a leisurely soak instead of rushing from one appointment to the next.
Balancing activity with unrestricted downtime
The author spent four days at Zadún on the Sensei Guided Wellness Experience, which felt unlike a traditional wellness retreat. Workouts, meditation and a massage were offered, and long periods were also spent by the pool and in a private plunge pool. Having ample time with nowhere to be required became the central element.
Seasonal programming and extended experiences
For 2026, Sensei is offering experiences like sensory eating, loving-kindness meditation, facial sculpting, a year-end reflection session and a New Year vision-board workshop, as well as a Christmas Eve Posada, Christmas dinner at Humo, New Year’s Eve programming, beach movie nights and nature activities.
Ideal guests and practical tips
The retreat suits travelers who view wellness as a complement to vacation rather than the sole purpose. Couples can pursue different focuses, one may prioritize strength
